So, I know I thought I would have been good about keeping this blog updated, but we have been so busy the last time I keep on putting it off. Then I realized that several things happend within the last month that I want to look back on to remember, so here there are:
1. We Moved!! We closed on our house at the end of June and started to move as soon as the keys were turned over to us. It's such a great feeling to own a home again. There's just something about not worry about this or that when you are renting from someone. We had about 2 weeks to move all of our stuff from our townhouse to the new house and let me tell you it took us that much time to move all the little things--several hours and loads back and forth we finally got the townhouse cleaned! Lesson learned: Don't ever turn off the power until your lease/contract is up. It was not pleasant trying to clean a bathroom in the dark with no A/C at the beginning of July. Benton is definitely much happier now that we aren't spending our time on the weekends in the car!
2. 4th of July: We didn't do much this year. We had the Friday off, but we were still trying to pack and move. We did walk to the end of our street on Saturday night to watch the fireworks over the Washington Monument.
3. Paint: We have delayed our process of unpacking for several weeks. We hired a painter to work on the living room and dining room. Since these rooms were mostly visited by us and visitors, we thought it would be better to spend the money and get it professionally painted. This was a chore in itself! The first job was the dining room. It had wallpaper and working with wallpaper (more on that later) let's just say I'm glad we decided not to strip the wallpaper ourselves. We decided to go with a two-tone in the dining room. We have a chair rail and thought this would look good as seen on HGTV! We had two colors picked out--green on the bottom and an ivory/cream for the top. Well..after the painter got done, the top color looked almost white! The color was "Toasted Marshmallow"--definitely not "toasted"! So we decided to take the color we wanted for the living room for the dining room and it's 100x better. Well...then we (meaning me) had to decide what color to paint the living room. 4 paint samples and mulitple strips of paint on the walls, we finally picked out the color and of course it was the last one we picked out--out of our many trips to Home Depot! One day later, the living room is painted and we love it! Now, it's decorating time. We ordered a circle dining room table from Crate and Barrel that should arrive this Saturday. Did I ever tell you that I hate moving?!
4. Shower: So this past weekend we flew down to Anderson, SC for Heather's wedding shower. when you think sitting at the airport was bad, try it with a 4 month old baby! It seems as though things were not getting better, let me explain. Our flight was originally planned for take off at 1pm. When we got to the airport there was a 50 minute delay--not bad, right? WRONG!! It got delayed another 45mins, then another 45 mins, and then 2 hours later, then it was cancelled! So, we debated the idea back and forth of what to do--still going to go down to SC, take a later flight, leave in the morning--we decided with all the waiting we have been doing at the airport that we were better off taking a later flight. Just when things seem like they were going the right way, the later flight to GSP was already booked full! So they put us on a flight to Charlotte and then having another 2 hour layover and then getting into GSP by 11:30pm! After booking this flight, the in-laws and us decided for all of our sake that they would pick us up in Charlotte and we would be home before our flight was suppose to leave! Luckly, Benton, being the good baby that he is, slept through most of this! So we finally made it to SC--just about 9 hours later. The next day..with all the bad eating we have been doing (from the airport) and a little stressed from the flight situation, I got sick. I missed my sister-in-law's wedding shower :( Beau had to drive me back home after being at the shower for 30 mins. Luckily after a 2 hour nap and some water, my stomach and headache were nonexistent! We were able to enjoy some beverages that night for Daniel's 30th birthday dinner. Poor Benton--got passed around the table like he was a beverage! He handled it well-but it definitely wore him (and us) out. We finally got back to VA Sunday morning. Man, what a weekend and it definitely went by way too fast!
Well that's all the exciting events that have happened this month. Pictures will be coming soon.
